Effective at the start of the 2008-09 year, payroll dates will move from bi-weekly (26 checks) to semi-monthly (24 checks). Paychecks will be issued on the 15th and end of the month.
If you have a July 1st contract your last paycheck for 2007-08 will be on July 11th. Your first paycheck for 2008-09 will be on July 15th. Your next paycheck will be issued on July 31st. You will receive your paychecks thereafter on the 15th and end of the month.
If you have an August 1st contract your last paycheck for 2007-08 will be on August 8th. Your first paycheck for 2008-09 will be on August 15th. Your next paycheck will be issued on August 31st. You will receive your paychecks thereafter on the 15th and end of the month.

Why is the District moving from 26 to 24 pays? With the 26 paychecks, there are certain years when the number of paychecks needs to be 27 not 26. There have been considerable questions and confusion about the 27th paycheck. To prevent this from occurring in the future, the District, AFSCME, RIEA and RIESPA have agreed to move to semi-monthly payments (24 paychecks).
How will this change my pay? Your annual salary will now be divided and paid in 24 installments instead of 26. This will increase the gross pay for each paycheck. Your annual contractual pay will be the same.
How will deductions be taken from the 24 checks versus the 26 checks? Under the 26 paychecks, all deductions other than garnishments are taken over 24 paychecks. On two of the paychecks deductions were not taken. Other than garnishments, deductions will remain the same. Garnishments will be taken over 24 paychecks. This may result in a different amount being withheld from each paycheck for garnishments.
How will this change impact my calendar year 2008 income? Your pay will be moved up two weeks. There will still be 26 total paychecks issued during 2008.
What if a pay date falls on a holiday? Whenever a pay dates falls on a holiday or weekend, the payment will be made on the last banking day prior to the scheduled pay date. For example, August 31st falls on a Sunday. The payment will be made on the last banking day prior to the 31st or Friday, the 29th.
