The year 2016 was the final year of the RIMSD #41 2013-2016 Strategic Plan, and administration took to task the and began the process to update the plan through the year 2020.
A school district administration team reviewed the 2013-2016 plan, deconstructed it and analyzed as to how it might be rebuilt to better serve students and the system without losing sight of the great work that has been done in the last decade.
Research and work included conducting online surveys and focus groups with students, staff, parents and community members; reviewing data and key components of current district performance; and conducting a SWOT analysis. A group of leaders consisting of parents, staff, alumni and community members reviewed the analysis and identified priorities, developed goals, strategies, monitoring and accountability draft plan with the foresight that the plan that can be a living document that is flexible and adaptable to an ever changing educational landscape.
The strategic plan has four purposes:
- To provide strategic direction for our district over the term;
- It serves as an accountability tool to ensure that progress is being made toward the strategic priorities;
- It acts as a management tool for setting goals and implementing actions;
- It is an informational piece for the community to convey the district’s purpose, mission, vision and values.
“I am really proud of the work that was accomplished in the last couple of months. In the 30 years that I have been with the Rock Island-Milan School District, each time our plans have become more focused and better for our district, based on what we have learned and the progress that we have made,” said Superintendent Dr. Mike Oberhaus.
In tandem with the new Strategic Plan, the school district adopted a new logo and tagline “This House ROCKS” to emphasize positive aspects of the school district and to have a campaign that students can use to talk about what they like best about their school.
