WJHS Announcements For Wednesday, May 22, 2013Wednesday, May 22, 2013 Today on the menu – Fish Shapes or Hotdog With warmer weather coming, a few of our students need to remember that there is a dress code still in existence here at Washington. Do not show up in class with inappropriate clothing. If you are interested there is an Academic Bowl between Edison and Washington tonight beginning at 6 P.M. (participants need to arrive at 5:45). There is a traveling trophy, which Edison won last year. Show up so we can claim the traveling trophy! Some students have already signed up, but even if you have not, you are welcome to play. Monday, May 20, 2013 Today on the menu – Bosco Stick/Beef Spaghetti Sauce With warmer weather coming, a few of our students need to remember that there is a dress code still in existence here at Washington. Most students are aware of what that code is. It will be enforced. If you do not know what the code is, it is your responsibility to find out in Advisory. Do not show up in class with inappropriate clothing. Tomorrow is the last day to check out a book in the school library. All library books are due on Friday, May 24. Are you a teen looking for a job? WJHS Student is District Bee Champion!Washington Jr. High 8th grader Stephanie Kerno was crowned Rock Island-Milan School District Spelling Bee champion at the district wide Spelling Bee on Thursday, Feb. 7. Ellie Hoeper will be representing Washington’s Lights On For Learning Drama Team at an upcoming taping of a roundtable discussion on bullying. Ellie was chosen because of her leadership on the Drama Team’s anti-bullying efforts that went state-wide last year. Student Success Corner Congratulations to Zachary Mlekush who won the annual Martin Luther King essay writing contest and delivered his essay to a large crowd during festivities at the King Center. 7th Graders Courtney Lindsay and Ramsey Vesey competed during the first weekend in February at the Boxing Nationals in Kansas City. Both were featured last week in the Rock Island Argus. Good luck to Stephanie Kerno and Jacob Maranda who will represent Washington Jr. High School at the District Spelling Bee on Thursday, February 7th at the Center for Math and Science.
