Web Site Updates
You may have noticed I’ve been updating the features on our staff page. A new widget has been installed along the left side of the page. This widget is pulling the latest posts from all the sites installed on the Rock Island Education Community site. I’m working on the Community links to enable visitors to quickly find members and sites. I’ll also be updating the groups and group calendars soon. With the updates, we’re now again able to form groups and friendships similar to other social networks. Read More →

Got More Spam? The new Internet filter will require increased training of our spam filter. You probably have noticed more spam in your Inbox. These messages should be moved to Filter –> Spam and the filter will begin to identify these as spam. There will also be more messages in your Junk Mail folder. These should be examined regularly. If the message is spam, delete the message. Moving the message to the spam training folder will not stop the message from being delivered. It will only train the filter to recognize the message as spam and move it to your Junk mail folder. If the message is not spam, it should be copied to the Filter –> Good folder. These messages will be delivered to your Inbox in the future. Read More →

If you are unable to access a site you need for classroom instruction, please contact me and we will open the site. Read More →
Email Problems
*** Update *** Email is now working. As of Friday (Aug 3, 2012) mail is back to working properly. We’re sorry about the inconvenience this has caused. Over the past week, the Internet filter has been upgraded. Although we’ll ultimately be able to better control how sites are blocked, we are currently struggling to properly configure the filter. The biggest impact has been on e-mail and access from outside the district was interrupted. We have temporarily added a link to the staff web page that will allow you to access your email from outside the district. E-mail is not working from cell phones and other devices that connect from outside our network. Read More →

Tech Tips
Cleaning your projectorDid you know that there is a filter on the projector that should be cleaned periodically? The desktop projectors used in our classrooms are capable of projecting extremely bright images on a screen, often bright enough to easily view without turning off the lights. A fan in the projector passes air through the projector to dissipate the high amount of heat that is generated. It’s very important to keep the filter clean to allow sufficient air to flow through and cool the projector. Visit our FAQ page to see step-by-step instructions on cleaning the filter. Read More →
