The Rock Island-Milan School District is gearing up for the 2012-2013 school year and ready for school supply donations as part of the First Day Project. Currently, there are over 2,400 Rock Island-Milan K-6 grade students who are in need of school supplies to start the school year with confidence.
The United States Post Office will be collecting school supplies from households in the Illinois Quad Cities on Saturday, July 21. People wishing to donate supplies can leave items out for their U.S. Postal Carrier on that day. Supplies needed: spiral notebooks, pencils, pens, markers, crayons, pocket folders, backpacks and glue sticks.
Other businesses that are collecting supplies until July 27:
- Chris Elsberg State Farm Insurance Agency – 3700 11th Street, Rock Island
- Keim’s Paint Center – 4661 44th Street, Rock Island
- Blackhawk Bank and Trust – 38th Street & Blackhawk Road, Rock Island
- Blackhawk Bank and Trust – 301 West 4th Street, Milan
Monetary donations will also be accepted. A donation of $10.00 would provide all of the needed school supplies for one Rock Island-Milan student. Checks can be made out to RIMSD #41 First Day Project and mailed to: First Day Project, Rock Island-Milan Schools, 2101 6th Avenue, Rock Island, IL 61201.
Volunteers are also needed to help sort school supplies! Please consider volunteering on July 23 and 24, 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the former Intermediate Academy (old Lincoln) School to help sort the supplies. Call Virginia Jarrett at 309-793-5900 x280 to sign up.
