Jalea Jackson Wins Thoms Scholarship 5K AwardDylaan Bibbs & Jalea Jackson The Thoms Family Above & Beyond Scholarship announced Jalea Jackson as the grand scholarship winner at a reception for the finalists at Rock Island High School on Tuesday, January 24th, 2012. The announcement was made during a ceremony immediately preceding the Rock Island School board meeting. Jalea’s project, Lean on Me Benefit Concert, was aimed at raising awareness and the funds to support The Place 2B, a not-for-profit drop-in-center for teens 14 to 18 years old. She found passion for an organization in need of funds to replace their central plumbing system along with food and clothing for the program. RIM Education Foundation Awards $7k to Schools
The Rock Island-Milan Education Foundation recently distributed $7,236.51 in individual teacher grants to 17 teachers throughout the Rock Island-Milan School District to improve classroom learning for students. All teachers throughout the District have the opportunity four times per year to apply for classroom grants from the Foundation. Each grant can be no more than $500 and must meet certain guidelines. For the fall 2011 quarter, the Foundation approved 17 grants throughout six schools in the District. Board of Education Honors PSAE Achievement Students
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE The Rock Island-Milan Board of Education recognized 24 Rock Island High School students at the January 24th meeting for their excellent academic performance on the Prairie State Achievement Examination (PSAE). The examination is given to all grade 11 students each spring and is used as a barometer for achievement in Illinois.
