As part of the major renovation of the entire high school, the library was expanded westward over the cafeteria, approximately doubling the size of the library  1998-99

From the 1955 Watchtower:   Librarian Mabel Rigg approvingly monitors students Rachael Fryxell and George Sproul having fun perusing the card catalog.   They had no clue that in the dystopian future the extraordinarily fun card catalog would be replaced by a dull humorless computer database, though to be fair, the database library catalog would prove to be easier to use, maintain, and access from home through a technology that came to be known as “the internet” which, as we all know, ultimately and tragically morphed into Skynet.

It appears that Bessie Bladel retired in 1953 after serving Rock Island High School as librarian since 1913.  Let’s see, 1953 minus 1913…
