As I write this second article for the Rock Island High School newsletter, it is difficult to believe that first quarter is coming to a close and we are more than half way into our fall athletic season.  At this point, our students are deeply immersed in school work and participating in co-curricular activities, with our parents working countless hours to support them. Know your time, effort, and energy is greatly appreciated by all of us at RIHS.

First quarter report cards will be given to parents or guardians at Parent – Teacher conferences on Thursday, October 6 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the fieldhouse and Friday, October 7 from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in individual classrooms. I encourage you to attend conferences as they provide you the opportunity to visit with your student’s classroom teachers to get an academic update.

We continue offering additional academic support in our Lights on For Learning program on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 3:30-4:30 p.m. The program provides academic help and a quiet place to do homework. English, math, and Computer Concepts tutoring and homework help are available.  Students will be provided snacks with surprise prize drawings conducted regularly! Please remember that academic assistance is also provided daily with teachers either before or after school when scheduled in advance.

We ask for your support as we continue to enforce our ID, electronic device & cell phone, and dress code policies.  Attendance (including tardies) will be a focal point for our staff as we strive to have 95% daily attendance.  All absences must be excused by a parent or guardian via a note or call to the attendance office.   Call our general number at 309-793-5950, press prompt 3, and follow the directions.

Remember you can monitor your student’s academic progress on-line by registering for Parent Portal.  Instructions for registering are included on page 3 of this newsletter.

Our athletic teams are seeing unprecedented success on the fields and courts this fall!  Also, our fine arts season is just around the corner.  Take a look at our activities calendar and get out to support our students!
