COUNSELING NEWS
The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Center and Augustana College will present a free program “Let’s Talk College” on Thursday, October 6th from 6:30-8:00pm. This program is designed to help students, their parents and anyone who works with high school students through the sometimes overwhelming college search and admissions process. Please RSVP to Eric Rowell at 794-7153.
CLUBS
Are you ready Rocky for the Spanish Club’s Annual Kick Off party? We will have games, food, fun and prizes and it’s all free for Spanish club members. You must be a member to attend. It will be held Thursday in the cafeteria from 6 to 8 p.m. The great food will be catered by Qdoba. We will also prepare for homecoming.
Letterman’s club is cancelled for tonight. We will have a short meeting on Thursday night at 7pm. All Vic’s Clique members should plan on attending.
Attention German Club members and interested staff and students: German club t-shirts will be ordered on Wednesday, September 7th. The shirts are $12 each and the money must be turned in by Wednesday. As a special offer, if you spend $15 you will also receive last year’s shirt! See Mr. Eli in room 221 to see the design.
Here it is! The announcement you’ve all been waiting for! All students interested in being on the crew for Romeo and Juliet should stop by for the informational meeting on Friday, September 9 at 3:30pm in room 146. Reminders will be posted throughout the school. Be there to sign up and help out with costumes, makeup, hair, lights, sound or set!

HOMECOMING
Okay students; listen up for your homecoming news!
Freshman, are you ready to make some homecoming history? It’s time to do just that with our class float for the homecoming parade. Please join us at Ms. Jackson’s house this Wednesday evening at 5:30. If you need directions please stop by Ms. Jackson’s room in room 106 first through fourth period.
Hey Seniors! It is time to leave you mark on the Rock Island community. So, let’s meet and decide how to create the best float that our community will remember forever. The meeting will be on Thursday, September 8 after school in room 200. Bring your best ideas and energy to work. See Ms. Grandberry for more information.
Seniors, if you want a tug-of-war shirt they’re $12. Please order with Sam Bebber, Ally Sweeney or Devon DeSmet. Shirts must be prepared and ordered by September 7th.

LOFL
Light On For Learning After-School tutoring and homework help is available to all students Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Assistance in Math, English, Computer Concepts, Credit Recovery, and ELL is offered from 3:30-4:30. The Library is available for students from 7:15 -7:55 a.m. Monday through Friday and again from 3:15 – 4:15 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Also, ACT Prep class is offered Monday through Friday at 7:00 – 7:55 a.m. with Mrs. Lillis. Students that regularly attend LOFL will receive various prizes and field trip opportunities. Please see Mrs. Johnson in room 226 for additional information and applications.
SPORTS
The boys cross country team raced well at Pleasant Valley Saturday. The fresh/soph boys placed 9th out of 18 teams. Mugisha “gish-gish” Fashinggoma was 32nd, followed by Thomas Ramirez, Siafa Jabbah, Cole Neder and Josh Hathorn. Eric Ikundrio was 16th in the varsity race with a time of 17:06, the 2nd fastest time at the PV meet in school history. Congrats!
Congrats are in order for the Lady Rocks Varsity Volleyball team, as they once again brought home another trophy. This time, it was a third place trophy that they earned in the Rock Falls Invitational Tournament in Rock Falls last Saturday. That’s two trophies earned in two tournaments so far this young volleyball season. Keep it rolling varsity volleyball team. The Lady Rocks open Western Big 6 Conference play this week, when they play Moline Thursday night. Please plan on supporting the volleyball team, as they take on the Maroons in Wharton Field House, this Thursday night, with things kicking off with the freshman at 5:00pm.
Celeste Arteaga took 13th place overall in a very competitive Galesburg Cross Country Invitational on Saturday. Also, the Rock Island freshman and sophomore girls won the team title as 1 place. Josephine led the way for the Rocks. Izzi Wieland, Kirsten Tauke, Abbi Wieland and Chastity Gingry rounded out the top 5 Rocky runners.
Today’s Sports Calendar
Boys Golf will have a home meet against Moline & Geneseo at Highland Springs starting at 3:15 PM.
Girls golf will compete at home against Geneseo & Alleman at Saukie starting at 3:30 PM
Girls Swim team will be at home competing against Galesburg starting at 6:00 p.m. Timers should report at 5:15 and swimmers should report at 4:00 p.m.
Girls tennis team will compete at home against Sterling starting at 4:30 PM.
Boys Soccer will compete at home against Orion starting with the JV at 4:30 and Varsity at 6:00 PM.
