Announcements for Tuesday the 16th

RIMA
RIMA (Rock Island Music Association) meets this evening at 7:00 p.m. in RIHS room 117.  All who support the music programs of the Rock Island/Milan School District are invited and encouraged to attend.  RIMA is open to parents, faculty, staff, students and community members.  Your interest in music throughout the district is all it takes to be a part of RIMA.   Help us get off to a great year. 

PICTURE RETAKES
If you have not had your picture taken for the yearbook, you have a second chance on Thursday, August 18th.  Students will get their pictures taken during their English classes.  If you need your 1st picture taken or a retake this is your chance to do so. Don’t forget to look your best and smile for this Thursday’s pictures.

FALL PLAY
There was a great turnout for auditions yesterday with very promising talent for the fall play Romeo and Juliet.  We’d love to see more students audition today after school in the Little Theatre.  See Mrs. Foster in room 146 for more information. 

CLUBS
Attention French club members: stop today by room 223 right after school to cast your vote for French club officers.

The Entertainment Club will meet today after school in room 328.  See Mr. Kennelly for more information.

If making a difference in the community is your kind of thing, please join Key Club!  We are meeting this Thursday at 7:15 a.m. in Room 27.   See Mrs. Kantner for more information.

Student Council is currently planning Homecoming week, a blood drive, and an amazing Student Hunger drive.  If you have Rocky pride and a desire to get involved in the school and community, please join us this Friday at 7:15 a.m. in the school library.  New faces are always welcome. See Mrs. Kantner for more information. 

Upward Bound students will meet with Ms. Rice in Room 302 on Thursday, August 18. 

Any student interested in the African-American Heritage Club should meet in Room 302 today at 3:20.  Refreshments will be served.  All interested students of all ethnic backgrounds are encouraged to attend.  See Ms. Rice for more information.

All new and veteran academic team players are to meet in Mrs. Bohling’s room 216 after school today for a very brief meeting concerning practice times for this year.

Today is an election day for Spanish club officers.  If you wish to vote or to be on the ballot you must be a paid member.  So, get our $5 in by this afternoon and support your choices for Spanish Club officers.  See Mrs. Shirk in room 124 for more information. 

Hey Rocky are we ready for some fun?  Come to the first dance of the year. The Spanish Club will be hosting a “Welcome Back” dance in the cafeteria this Friday after the Red/Gold Game. The cost is $5.  You must have your Rock Island High School current ID.  We will have food, fun and prizes.  The dance will be from 8:00 to 10:30.  We hope to see you there.  See Mrs. Shirk for more information. 

LOFL
Announcement: Light On For Learning After-School Program is available to all students for academic support, opportunities to participate in college and university field trips, quarterly incentives, and other organized activities. LOFL classes will begin on today after school with: Mrs. Stark- Math in room 300, Mr. Smith-Math in room 201, Ms. Rice-English in room 302, Mr. McConnell-ELL-in room 123, Mr. Hains-Credit Recovery in room 128, and Ms. Quinlin-Computer Concepts in room 214 (Tuesdays only), LOFL Library Study Skills 7:15-7:55 a.m. and 3:15-4:15 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday. Please see Mrs. Johnson in room 226 for applications and information.
