A few reminders from the Deans’ Complex:
Students should use the crosswalks when crossing the streets, before and after school.
- It is extremely important to be on time to school and to all classes during the day. Please remember that a hall sweep pass is a tardy to class. When a student reaches a total of 6 tardies, he/she will begin receiving discipline consequences from the Deans’ Complex.
- Students are also reminded of our school dress code. Girls should use the “fingertip rule” for shorts, skirts and dresses. Take pride in what you wear and dress appropriately every day.
YEARBOOKS
There’s still time to buy your 2010-2011 yearbook. Yearbooks are $40.00 and sold in room 211. Don’t miss out! Yearbooks will only be sold until winter break. No extras will be ordered this year, so order yours now.
PICTURES
School pictures are in! Please come and pick them up after school in room 211. Also, if you missed the first picture taking at registration, you may get your picture taken on Thursday, August 26th in the Auditorium.
CLUBS
German Club will have it’s first meeting today after school in Room 211 at 3:20 p.m.
Attention, Academic Team Players: We will have a brief after school meeting in room 216 on Tuesday to discuss practice times. All new players are to attend.
We need Blood Donors! Please see Student Council Members or Mrs. Guse in Room 118. We need especially O Negative blood. You must be at least 16 years of age to donate and all 16 year olds must have parental consent. If you are over 16, no parental consent is necessary. Please help if you can. Thank you.
All seniors, juniors & sophomores interested in Minority Teacher Incentive Program (MTIP). Please check with Mrs. Jenkins in Room 226.
Staff and students: Come to the first R.O.C.K. group meeting after school, today, August 12th, in room 124. The R.O.C.K. group is a non-denominational group of Christians who get together to fellowship with other Christians.
Come one and come all to the first Student Council meeting this Friday morning at 7:15 a.m. in the library. Come and enjoy a great group of students.
Eugene Field School needs our help! Students, Eugene Field school‘s frolic is this Friday and they need workers at 4:45 until 8:00 p.m. or whenever. See Mrs. Guse in room 118 to sign up. Volunteering for this frolic is a good start for National Honor Society, Spanish club.
COUNSELING OFFICE
Attention Interested 11th graders: Now is the time to register for the PSAT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test). This test is the qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship Finalist Competition. The deadline to register is August 20. The cost is $20. Checks should be made to RIHS. Stop by Room 1 in the Counseling Office and see Mrs. Ricketts to register. See Mr. Kingery if you have questions!
LOFL TUTORING PROGRAM
Lights On For Learning After-School tutorial program is committed to serving students through enrichment and academic assistance in Math, English, Computer Concepts, and Credit Recovery on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, from 3:30 to 4:30p.m. Are you Up For The challenge? Take the challenge of attaining higher academic achievement in your classroom by attending Lights On For Learning Program today. Enjoy great snacks each day!! Tutoring begins Monday, August 16th. See Mrs. Johnson in room 226 for an application.
ATHLETICS
Attention Rock Island!! One of your peers acquired All American status this summer. Sophomore BJ McGhee placed 6th at Freestyle Nationals in Fargo, North Dakota. Freestyle wrestling is the same style represented in the Olympics. There were 87 kids in his bracket representing 50 different states. Congratulations BJ McGhee for becoming an All American! He is currently the only All American in any sport at Rocky.
Attention all wrestlers not out for a fall sport. We will begin open mat workouts in the Fitness Center beginning Monday, August 16th. We will workout Monday through Thursday right after school. Remember, “Success Is Not Convenient”.
Any student-athlete interested in fall baseball, please meet in Mr. Campbell’s room on Friday (309) for a brief meeting.
