FUN DAYS TO CELEBRATE
Aviation Day
National Aviation Day is in honor of the birthday of aviator Orville Wright.
All parents, students and staff are invited to participate in the RIHS PTSA (Parent, Teacher, and Student Association). The first meeting of the year is Wednesday, August 19 at 6:30 p.m. in the Conference Room. We look forward to working together to improve the “quality of education” at Rock Island High School. Come and help set the direction for our work and activities this coming year.
The first RIMA meeting will be held today 7 pm in the conference room. All parents are invited to attend.
PRIDE WINNERS
The winners for the Rocky Pride Store drawing that took place at the rally at the rock are posted in the cafeteria. If your name is on the list, please stop by room 147 before or after school only to pick up your prize
FREE TUTORING
Students needing extra help can attend Lights On For Learning. It is open to all students.
Lights On For Learning will be held on Monday, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 – 4:30; English is in Room 302 with Ms. Rice, math is in Room 300 with Mrs. Stark and in Room 201 with Mr. Smith.
PICTURE RETAKES
Freshman, sophomores, and juniors who did not get their pictures taken at registration can get their school photo taken on Wednesday, August 26th. Picture packets are available in the main office, the dean’s complex and room 211. Students can also get retakes at this time. Seniors, if you haven’t taken your senior picture yet, contact the Moline office of Photographic Arts as soon as possible.
CLUBS
Friday’s Spanish Dance has been cancelled.
Students interested in joining the Environmental Action Club come to the meeting today at 3:20 in Room 313. We will hand out membership forms, collect $3 and do a quick “Adopt a Highway” clean-up outside school.
French club members!!!! Do not forget to stop today by Madame B room to vote right after school.
Anyone who placed an order or asked to reserve a tailgate shirt, please see Mrs. Lillis. If orders are not spoken for today, those shirts will be sold.
Last Call for tailgate t-shirts: If you were not able to get a shirt in the size you like, please see Mrs. Lillis in room 232 as soon as possible to place your order. The last order for shirts will be made tomorrow. Currently they are still some mediums, X large and XX large.
The African American Heritage Club will meet on Thursday morning at 7:00 am, in Ms. Rice’s room 303. For those who can not make a morning meeting, we have a repeat meeting after at 3:30 pm the same day.
Hey, Studio Members: There will be a meeting this Thursday, after school in room 146. We will be discussing upcoming events and other club related business. If you’re not a member, it’s never too late to join. See you there!
Key Club will meet this Thursday morning at 7:30 in Room 156. Members need to bring in dues and permission slips. We plan to discuss fund-raising ideas.
Please sign up for the blood drive. Stop in room 122 or see a Student Council member. Also, Student Council members: there will be an important meeting this Friday at 7:15 in the library.
MTIP
Attention all students interested in the M/TIP program and quad city scholars: All applications must be turned in to Mrs. Jenkins by Monday, August 31st. If you have turned your application in and have not received your shirt, check with Mrs. Jenkins. We are setting up our visitation dates for the year. If you do not have your application turned in on time, you will not be allowed to participate in any of our field trips. If you have any questions, check with Mrs. Jenkins in the counseling office.
