Parent/Teacher Conferences:Students: Remind your parent to attend Parent-Teacher Conferences Thursday, October 2nd from 5 to 8 p.m. and again on Friday, October 3rd from 8 to 1 p.m. Your parent/guardian may pick up your report card in the foyer outside the dean’s office during conferences times. Also, please remind them to park in the 25th avenue parking lot and use the circle drive doors for entry.
Band News:
If your family drinks Swiss Valley milk or Swiss Valley orange juice, save the CAPS for the RIHS Band! All band members are collecting these Swiss Valley milk caps and O.J. caps. You may give the clean CAPS to any band member.Â
Homework Help:
We will have Lights ON For Learning on Tuesday but not on Thursday. Have a great break.
Clubs:
All Upward bound Students will meet in room 315 on Thursday the 4th. If you are not able to attend, please see Mr. Christensen for announcements.
Student Council:
Attention Student Council Members: There will be a meeting this Wednesday morning at 7:15 a.m. Also, meet tonight at 4:45 for the Hunger Drive Kick-Off Party. Wear black and white if you are in the skit. Come if you participated in the Car Wash, Marathon, etc. Want to be part of the River Bandits Haunted house? See Mrs. Guse in room 122 for information. Come join the fun.Â
Lunch with the Principal:
Hey students, do you have a pride card that you just never seem to have time to redeem? Drop it in a box in the front office or in the library for a special once a month drawing that enables 5 lucky students to go out to lunch with Principal Mason. The first drawing will be in October.Â
Sports:
Attention all boys planning to tryout for boys basketball…this year’s sizing for team shoes will be Wednesday, October 1st at 1:35 in the boys’ varsity locker room. Any boy planning to tryout for basketball should stop in to size shoes for this year’s basketball season. Again, the shoe sizing is Wednesday, October 1st at 1:35 in the varsity locker room.Â
The Boys’ Golf Team finished 4th in the Big 6 Golf Conference Golf Tournament yesterday. The Rocks outscored U T and Alleman but finished behind 3rd place Galesberg, 2nd place Moline and champion Quincy. Senior captain Ethan Gordon’s score of 80 led the Rocks. Gordon tied for 7th low individual score. He was supported by Brinn Bell 83, Aaron Wilson 85, Devin Goebel 88, Zach Carlson 88, and Christian Cottingham 91. The Rocks travel to Moline today for a triangular with Alleman and Moline.  Â
The Lady Rocks swim team won their first meet of the season last Thursday over Burlington 93-73. The Rocks were lead by Jenna Nevins with 4 wins, Abby Sloan and Linnea Lardner each had 3 wins, Rosalie Starenko had 2 wins, and Rachel Petersen picked up 1 win.Â
Counseling Department:
The following colleges will be in the Counseling Office this week Tuesday at 1:30 is Northern Illinois;  Wednesday at 8:00 is Illinois State; 11:00 is SIU Carbondale & McMurray College; 1:30 SIU, Edwardsville; Thursday at 8:00 is Illinois College; 9:00 Monmouth; 10:00 Quincy; 1:00 is Bradley and U of St Francis; 1:30 is Lincoln College; 2:30 is Illinois Inst of Tech. If you wish to visit with a representative please stop in the office for a pass.
Black Hawk College is hosting College Night on Thursday from 6-8 pm. There will be over 80 colleges and universities being represented.Â
Pizza & Subs is looking for hard working students to work at their restaurant on a part time basis. Interested students must be at least 16 years old and want to work. If interested, apply in person.Â
Seniors: The Counseling office will be closed over break so if you are in need of transcripts – please be sure to get your requests to your counselor early.Â
Homecoming News:Students, teachers, staff and parents: Thank you for your help in making this year’s homecoming a huge success.  A special thank you goes to Mrs. Guse, Mrs. Thompson and Mrs. Lillis for their extra time and help planning with the activities of homecoming week, parade and dance. And last, but not least, we thank the Development Office and Letterman’s club for the exceptional display of fireworks after Friday night’s game. Well done Rocky!Â
