Dear Parents and Guardians,

I wanted to remind you that we are having an adult work day on Saturday. We will be planting and mulching plus possibly painting some items on the blacktop playground. We will be working 9-12. If you have plants that you need to split out like lilies or hostas, we have plenty of places for them. If you are going to be able to join us we are in need of a wheelbarrow for the mulch.

Wednesday, May 23 is our Lunch on the Lawn. We hope that you can come and enjoy the Washington Jazz Band and have lunch, followed by our talent show.

Thursday, May 24th is our Field Day. We will be celebrating the Olympics, we hope that you can come and help that day. It should be another wonderful field day!

Here’s an opportunity to make a difference at RICMS!

On May 19 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Heritage, a local church, is having a community outreach day at the Rock Island Center for Math & Science.

They are sending workers to spruce up our school campus. This is an adult work day. If you like to garden, we would love to have you join them. We will be cleaning up problem areas on the campus to make our school grounds more attractive and usable. If you would like to join us wear old clothes and bring gardening tools. We will also be painting games on the blacktop, weather permitting. We have a lot to do so we need your help. This is a great chance to make a difference and meet great people.

Items needed:

• Gardening tools ( school has limited supply)
• A chain saw for cutting fallen tree trunks
• Shade plants (preferably hostas)
• Mulch in bags
• Sand in bags

This is an adult work day – please help us by spending the morning at RICMS! It’s a great way to get to know other school parents and community members.

Kindergarten Round Up will be at Rock Island Center for Math and Science on Wednesday, April 18 from 3:00 – 5:30 p.m. at the school.

Parents and guardians should bring birth certificate, physical (if done), social security card, and proof of residence. Child must be 5 on or before September 1st, 2012.

Children eligible for Kindergarten at the R.I. Center for Math & Science must be accepted for enrollment prior to the Round Up date. Call the school at 309-793-5995 with any questions.

Rock Island Center for Math & Science Trivia Night!

The PTCC is hosting the 3rd Annual RICMS Trivia Night Friday, Feb. 3, 2012 Plumbers & Pipefitters Hall (4600 Blackhawk Rd., RI), 7 – 10 pm, Doors open at 6 pm.

All proceeds will benefit our school’s new and exciting technology programs!

The January art exhibit at the Rock Island Main Library, 401 19th Street, features art works by Rock
Island/Milan elementary students. The “Art Start” show is sponsored and organized by the Rock Island Art Guild.
Works are available for viewing during regular library hours. The show is on the 2nd floor of the Rock Island Main Library, 401 19th Street. Third through sixth grade students will be participating from Rock Island Center for Math & Science and other elementary schools.

A reception will also be held on Tue, Jan. 17th from 3:30-5:00 p.m. at the R.I. Public Library.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

This week we will have a book fair all week, it will be open Tuesday evening until 7:30. On Tuesday, April 26th we will have our science night. Students have worked hard to apply the scientific method to their learning, they will be exhibiting their findings from 5:30 to 6:30. in their classrooms.

Students are “reading me to the roof” by May 25th. Every book counts. We haven’t reached 2000 yet, so I hope they can meet this challenge.

A fund raiser was sent home this week through the PTCC. The proceeds will go toward student activities, fine arts and technology.
