RICMS and PTCC Trivia Night, Feb. 3!

Rock Island Center for Math & Science Trivia Night! The PTCC is hosting the 3rd Annual RICMS Trivia Night Friday, Feb. 3, 2012 Plumbers & Pipefitters Hall (4600 Blackhawk Rd., RI), 7 – 10 pm, Doors open at 6 pm. All proceeds will benefit our school’s new and exciting technology programs! ● Cash Prizes & Basket Raffle ● Cost is $10 per person, individuals or teams of 8 can reserve a spot or table ● Bring snacks, beer & soda will be sold, no coolers please. If you would like to help with event set-up, selling refreshments, taking admissions, or other tasks, contact Tom Brokaw or Brandon Pannell. Upcoming events…

Here are a few things coming up at the Rock Island Center for Math and Science: The January art exhibit at the Rock Island Main Library, 401 19th Street, features art works by Rock Island/Milan elementary students. The “Art Start” show is sponsored and organized by the Rock Island Art Guild. Works are available for viewing during regular library hours. The show is on the 2nd floor of the Rock Island Main Library, 401 19th Street. Third through sixth grade students will be participating from Rock Island Center for Math & Science and other elementary schools. A reception will also be held on Tue, Jan. 17th from 3:30-5:00 p.m. at the R.I. Public Library. Tuesday: Fusion Learning lab begins this week. PTCC 6:00 Wednesday: 7:15 Jr. Lego League 2:10 dismissal Thursday Learning Lab Friday Leaders...

RI Center for Math & Science Center Connection Newsletter January 10, 2012   Welcome back to the rest of the year! We are looking forward to the second semester! UPCOMING EVENTS Hoops for Heart—Deadline for your Hoops for Heart sheets is this Friday, January 13th. On Thursday, Miss V. would like all students to wear their favorite basketball jersey to support their favorite team. Early Out is this Friday @ 11:45 a.m. Monday—January 16th—NO SCHOOL in honor of Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday. Spelling Bee Remember to sign the permission form and return it ASAP to receive your Spelling Bee Student List. Practice for the spelling bee will be held from 3:00—4:00 p.m. on January 17, 18, 19 and the School Spelling Bee will be held on Friday, January 20th at 1:00 p.m. District...

A note from the Principal

Dear Parents and Guardians, Welcome back to second quarter. I hope you had a relaxing fall break. We had wonderful intersession classes this year, thank you PTCC and Julie Hansen for getting this all organized this year. What a success! Monday, Oct. 24, we will have Environmental Club from 3-4:00. This week we will have Red Ribbon week, Tuesday students are asked to wear red. The blood drive will be this Wed. 2-6:30, if you want to give blood, please contact Cheryl Park to sign up cheryl.park@risd41.org. Tuesday night at 5:30 we will have our Annual Title I meeting. This will be followed by the PTCC monthly meeting at 6:00. Next week we will celebrate Halloween, the parade will be begin at 2:10 p.m. on Monday, October 31. November 4th will be an early out day with a 11:45 a.m. dismissal and November... 


Principal Hits the Roof

Principal Tobey-Brown hit the roof of the Rock Island Center for Math & Science on Tuesday, May 31 after she found out that the students at the school read over 10,000 books this quarter. The original goal was 7,760 books. Assistant Principal Mr. K. also joined Dr. Tobey-Brown on the roof for the morning and helped read a book or two to students who were waiting for their field trip bus. “I’m very proud of all of the students at the Center for Math & Science! They really wanted to see me on the roof.” said Dr. Tobey-Brown. “I promised the students I would climb up to the roof if they made their goal, and they read over 10,000 books!” Students are anxious for their principal to appear on the roof. Dr. Tobey-Brown makes it up to the roof! Mr. K joins Dr....
