At the end of chapter 23 Sweet smiled when asked where they were going. Where are they going and why is Sweet smiling? What kind of relationship does Sweet have with the soldiers?

There going to the battlefield to fight.Sweet was smiling because they are going somewhere where there training would pay off.The relationship sweet has with them is that they’re the best troops[Army men].
