Transition NightOn Thursday, 11/4, from 6:00-7:00 we have a “Transition Night” planned for the parents of our “graduating” students. As our students near kindergarten age, we need to plan for the next stage of their education. At the Transition Night, we will review the procedures that are used and discuss what options are avaiable. Representatives from many of our school districts will be present to talk with parents about details that are specific to their district. We will also have representatives fromt he Black Hawk Area Education Center to explain their services. This is an exciting time in the educational career of our children. Fall Festival
On Friday 10/29 our SKIP and EDR students will be participating in our annual Fall Festival. The committee is planning several activities to include craft projects, treats, and music. When plans are finalized, we’ll send home a flyer with the details. Read More →
Parent Conferences
It doesn’t seem possible that the 1st quarter will be over in a little over 2 weeks! Wow, how time flies! On Thursday, 9/30 and Friday, 10/1 we will hold our fall Parent Conferences. This year, times will be from 11:00 to 7:00 on Thursday, and 8:30 to 1:00 on Friday. Your child’s teacher will be arranging conference times with you. As an added feature this year, we have arranged for a Parent Educator from StarNet to provide a parent seminar on “Issues for Siblings of Disabled Children”. We have had multiple questions from parents regarding this issue. The seminar will be from 5:30-6:30 on Thursday, 10/30. We will have some light refreshments and chilcare available. Rock Island Elks Donate to HMELCAl Nesseler, Sarah Greim, George Johnson and Ron Smith Members from the Rock Island Elks Lodge #980 presented a donation of $1,000 on August 30 to the Horace Mann Early Learning Center for much needed fencing around the Adaptive Play Area at the school. Elk member Mr. Al Nesseler donated an additional $500 toward the purchase of a swing for special needs children. “We are so grateful for the Elks and their generosity – they have been helping us with our needs at the Special Kids In Preschool program for many years,” said Interim Principal Sarah Greim. HMELC Spirit Wear
The HMELC Spirit Wear is ready to be ordered! On Friday 9/3/10 we will be sending home (with the school newsletter) an order form for HMELC Spirit Wear. This is your first opportunity to order t-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, and long-sleeved shirts. We think you’ll find them to be quite nice looking! We will have samples of the t-shirts displayed in the main office. Please submit your order form to the office or to your child’s teacher by the end of school on 9/13/10.
