Each year the PTA sponsors the Eugene Field FROLIC, Family Science Night, Cultural Arts, Field, Day, Family Trivia Night, the Hot Dog Roast, Scholastic Book Fair, Ice Cream Social, swim parties, skating parties, and many other events to raise money and support the school.
Parents may also volunteer in the classrooms by providing small group tutoring, organizing and leading art projects, and teaching computer skills. Parents also support the school by volunteering as adult crossing guards on 31st Avenue before and after school.
Peer Mediation
Eugene Field has implemented a Positive Behavior Intervention System. It emphasizes teaching and recognizing the positive behaviors of its students. Over 80 students in grades 3-6 have been trained to resolve conflicts. These Peer Mediators “work” during their lunch recess to resolve conflicts on the playground as they arise.
Safety, Parking, Crossing Guards
Morning Drop-off Routine: Parents pull into the St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church front parking lot, located directly east of Eugene Field, to drop off their child.
Evening Pick-up Routine: Parents are required to park. The neighboring Baptist Church and St. George Greek Orthodox Church allow parents to park in their back parking lots.
There are adult crossing guards on duty to assist students and parents safely across the street. Visitors park on the street or in the back of the two neighboring churches.
Playground Time & Supervision
Students receive a 15-minute recess, which is attached to their lunchtime. Primary grade students also receive an additional 15-minute recess during the day. During these times, students are supervised by aides, teachers, and the principal.
