In September, Earl Hanson Elementary will be submitting a 5 year “Lights on for Learning” grant for a total of $500,000.00. The grant, if awarded, will pay for before and after school tutoring, student enrichment opportunities through Figge Art Museum and various organizations throughout the Quad Cities. It will also allow for STEMS (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) education, and adult learning programs.

The Lights on for Learning is facilitated through The Rock Island County Regional Office of Education(RIROE) in partnership with Rock Island/Milan School District #41. The money is from a federal 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant funds for establishing Community Learning Centers(CLC) in area schools. Each CLC works in partnership with community-based organizations to offer academic enrichment, recreational and cultural opportunities in safe drug-free facilities for youth, their families and community members.
