Rod Hill, Phys Ed teacher at Earl Hanson Elementary, is retiring this year!

If you are a former student of Earl Hanson, the school would like to hear from you! Please help create a scrapbook of memories for Mr. Hill by writing down your favorite memory of gym class (running the mile, shooting hoops, playing dodgeball) and emailing it to amanda_aunan@yahoo.com.

Kindergarten Round Up At Earl Hanson

Kindergarten Round Up at Earl Hanson will take place on Wednesday, May 2 from 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the school.

Parents and guardians should bring birth certificate, physical (if done), social security card, and proof of residence. Child must be 5 on or before September 1st, 2012.

Hanson Students Help the Safer Foundation

Each year, the Earl Hanson “PeaceBuilders” choose a community service project. This winter, the students raised over $425 in addition to collecting items for the Safer Foundation, a youth empowerment program for young adults ages 16-21. “The students amaze me each year,” said teacher Ellen Martin. “And the parents and community are very supportive as well.”

Earl Hanson Second Quarter MVP’s

The Earl Hanson MVP’s (Most Valuable Person) were celebrated on Wednesday afternoon on Dec. 14 with a special treat and recognition from Principal Deb Taber. Teachers read the student nominations and thanked the MVP’s for their willingness to be helpful in class, taking initiative in assignments and being respectful to others.

“We love to recognize our students for all of the great things they do,” said Principal Taber. “They make our school a great place to learn.”

New playground equipment

View pictures of our new playground equipment here at Earl Hanson. It was purchased from a grant from the Carver foundation and was initiated by Mr. Moore, booster club member and student’s dad, . It was previously at Audobon. The adult on equipment is Lori Despain our secretary. The kids are from Mrs. Keller’s classroom.

IMSA Fusion Coming to Earl Hanson

Dear Parents/Guardians;

We are excited to announce that the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA) has partnered with Earl Hanson School to sponsor IMSA FUSION. This after-school math/science enrichment program is for grade 4-6 students who are talented, interested, and motivated in science and mathematics. The program will involve a commitment to attend sessions after school from 3:00-5:00 p.m. one day per week, September – May and an occasional Saturday. The cost of the program is $25.00 to defray materials costs.

Your son or daughter may apply for participation. Twenty students from grades 4-5-6 will be selected each semester. Students from grades 5-6 will be selected for the first semester and twenty students from grades 4-5 will be selected for the second semester based upon the following criteria:
Teacher recommendation;
Academic performance;
ISAT performance;
A student essay stating interest in the program.

We would like to invite you and your student to attend an informational meeting about IMSA FUSION:

August 11, 2011, 6:00 p.m., Earl Hanson Cafeteria

At the meeting you will learn more about the program and the activities for the students and you will be able to pick up an application packet. Completed applications and parent signatures must be returned to Mrs. Taber on or before Thursday, August 18, 2011 for consideration. Students will be notified of acceptance into the program by September 2, 2011.

Earl Hanson Spring Carnival!

Earl Hanson is having a Spring Carnival on Friday, May 6, from 5-7 p.m.

There are over 20 activities scheduled: Miller Petting Zoo, Dunk Tank, huge Blow-up Obstacle Course, cake walk, fish pond, Auction, many, many fun games and activities!

Tickets $.25 per ticket or unlimited wristband for $10.00
