Academics


Core Academics

Rock Island-Milan School District offers a diverse academic program including curricular areas such as: Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, Foreign Languages, Health, Physical Education, and the Arts. Instruction is based on the Illinois Learning Standards and incorporates effective, research-based instructional strategies. Grading and student assessment practices are constructed to provide optimal feedback on student academic progress.

Multi-Age or Looping Grades

Denkmann does not have any classrooms with multiple grades or any teachers that practice looping.

Languages Offered

ELL programming is offered at Denkmann for students who have English as their second language.

Head Start

Denkmann has a Head Start program.

Special Programs for Gifted and At-Risk Students

Rock Island-Milan School District believes that students with potential for outstanding accomplishments require special provisions to meet their educational needs. The gifted program identifies individuals through teacher referral, cognitive ability, and achievement testing and establishes an individualized academic program for those identified students.

Library and Technology Services

Each classroom has wireless access to the Internet and at least two computer stations. Currently we have a portable computer lab on our second floor.  Our library has a wide variety of reading materials that is expanded and updated on a regular basis.

Special Classes and/or Programs Offered

§       Currently, Denkmann is focusing on writing skills for grades kindergarten through sixth by conducting Local Writing Assessments.

§       Students and teachers collaborated and made rubrics, checklists, and expectations for their school year goals.

§       Teachers display Koality Goals in the classroom and in the halls to encourage students to try harder in school.

Achievement Scores

Though we always see room for improvement, we have made nice gains in all academic areas. Our main focus over the last several years has been on writing. ISAT scores have improved in all grade levels. This year we have added an emphasis on reading. We are striving to provide a comprehensive curriculum that is geared toward student need. Again, we expect to see improvements in all academic areas.
