Once you have joined the Rock Island Education Community site, look at Groups under the Community drop-down.  See if there is a group that you would be interested in joining.  If you find a group that you would like to join, click on the request membership button.

Don’t see a group that suits your needs?  Create your own group!

There are 3 types of groups: Public , Private and Hidden.  Any site member can join a public group and the group’s content is visible to any member of the site. To join a private group you must request and be granted permission to join the group.  The content is only visible to group members.  Both of these groups are listed in the groups directory.  The last type of group is a hidden group.  Only members who are invited can join this type of group.  A hidden group is not visible in the group directory and only members can see it’s content.  A hidden group can be set up to be used by students in a classroom.

To create a public or private group go to the Groups page and click on the tab Create a Group. The site will step you through creating and inviting members.  If you would like to create a hidden group for your class, please contact Vicki Todd or Mike Breidenstein for assistance.
