How do I set up district email on my cell phone or other portable device?

On your phone, find the area where you will set up mail (possibly under settings). Click on Add an Account. Your username will be your first name dot last name (john.doe) The password will be your regular email password that you use for district email. Your server setting is mail.risd41.org for incoming and outgoing mail (SMTP). SSL should be turned off for both incoming and outgoing mail.  You may not see the setting for this until after you have the account set up.  You’ll then need to go in and edit the account to turn this off (uncheck it). You will also want to change the port for outgoing mail to 2525 or you may have difficulties sending mail from outside the district.  Read More →

Why am I not getting “Entire District” e-mail messages?

This is how the mailing lists work and why people are occasionally removed from a list: The Rock Island School District has many mailing lists set up for different groups. Everyone in the district is a member of the “Entire District” mailing list. When a message from the list is refused by the recipient for whatever reason, it’s recorded as a “bounced” message. Our system is set to bounce a message 100 times and then unsubscribe the person. (Most systems bounce less than 10 and then remove the person from the list)  Read More →

How do I clean the filter on my projector?

The desktop projectors used in our classrooms are capable of projecting extremely bright images on a screen, often bright enough to easily view without turning off the lights. A fan in the projector passes air through the projector to dissipate the high amount of heat that is generated. It’s very important to keep the filter clean to allow sufficient air to flow through and cool the projector.  Read More →

My Internet connection is slow over wireless at school.

The wireless networks installed throughout the district are designed to allow access to the network through shared wireless access points (AP). The number of computers connected to a single AP has an impact on how fast the connection will beto the network. [Read more of this review]  Read More →

I am unable to open the school board agenda posted to the web site.

The agenda and minutes are posted as Adobe Acrobat PDF files. All district computers have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed to open PDF documents. Large files will occasionally fail to open in a browser because the browser will time out before the file finishes downloading. [Read more of this review]  Read More →
