Building Excellence Breaks Ground

Groundbreakings were held today for two important Building Excellence projects: Longfellow Elementary and Eugene Field Elementary. Students, staff, parents, chamber officials and community members attended both ceremonies to mark the special occasion.

Longfellow Elementary will build approximately 10,000 sq. ft. of additional space consisting of a new media center, 4 classrooms, restrooms, cafeteria, small instructional space and elevator. The building will accommodate 250 students and be completed by August 2009. The school will re-open next fall with an enhanced curriculum featuring a liberal arts focus and will be working in partnership with Augustana College. Architect Greg Gowey of SGGM completed the design of the Longfellow additions and Hillebrand Construction is the general contractor.

Eugene Field groundbreaking

Eugene Field will receive 6 additional classrooms, a separate cafeteria and small office spaces totaling approximately 13,000 square feet. The additions will be complete by fall of 2009 and be ready for 400 students to enroll. About 210 students currently attend Eugene Field. The school addition design was completed by architect Greg Larrison of Larrison and Associates and Hillebrand Construction is the general contractor.
