Club News

Rockastana has been moved to Tuesdays at 3:30 in RM 117.  All students who have never come to Rockastana are encouraged to join.

Congratulations to the Varsity Academic Team players for making it into the 2nd round of the regional competition last night.  Great job, Team!!!

Spanish Club remember we have a meeting today after school.  We will be meeting with the French Club and the German Club to discuss our international night.  We will also be discussing our Birthday party.

Hey, Seniors:  More new scholarships are now in!  The Guthrie Family Rocky Spirit, The Duncan Reid, The Rock Island County, The Black Hawk Chapter Counselors Association and Black Hawk Chapter of Professional Engineers are now in.  Lots of money for those of you headed to college in the Fall.  Stop by before break, and get your applications!

Students planning to attend PLATO credit recovery during the March intersession should meet with your counselor to sign up and to determine what class you will need to complete. If you are currently in credit recovery during the day or after school, you will still need to meet with your counselor to reserve a spot.

Come check out the visiting colleges and ask the recruiters your questions.

Sports News

If anyone wishes to ride a fan bus to Wednesday’s Sectional Basketball game in Ottawa, please see Mrs. Lillis in room 232 today.  The cost is $21.50. Cash only.  Mrs. Lillis will not make change.  The cost includes a seat on a Motor Coach bus and a ticket to the game.  All money is due today, no exceptions. We must fill a 41 passenger bus in order to go.  If the bus isn’t sold out by 3:15 this afternoon, the bus will be cancelled and those that paid will get your money back.

Those that just want game tickets can get them for $5 in the book store.

Are you missing a pair of peace symbol earrings, a set of keys with a pink flip flop key ring, glasses, hoodies, and shoes?  These and many other orphaned items are waiting to be reunited with their owners and taken home.  Stop by and see if your misplaced items are here.  All items unclaimed by the end of 3rd quarter (March 12th) will be donated to Goodwill on behalf of the students of Rock Island High School.

CASA 28TH ANNUAL ST. PATRICK’S DAY RACES are this Sat., March 13, 2010 . Fun for all ages.   Run or Walk, but don’t miss out on the fun.  Brochures and entry forms can be found in the main office, library or the Dean’s complex.

POST PROM CELEBRATION – DONATIONS NEEDED

Donations are still needed for the ”After Prom Party” at the QCCA Expo Center on May 22, 2010.  Everyone is encouraged to help support this event as it is offered to all Seniors and Juniors and their dates/guests.  The evening begins at 11pm and ends at 3am.  Games, food, entertainment and prizes are provided for FREE to all students that attend.  This is our way of having something fun, safe and secure for our kids to attend after their Prom Dance.  Donations can be made to: RIHS Post Prom, c/o RIHS Post Prom Committee, 1400 25 Avenue, Rock Island IL 61201. Congratulations to our “Runnin Rocks” varsity basketball team for starting the road to State with a convincing win over Geneseo last night.  The Rocks held Geneseo to just 29 points for the game and advance to the Regional Championship Game this Friday night at 7:30 back at Geneseo.  Tickets are $4 and may be purchased in the High School Book Store during regular store hours.  Let’s pack the house with Red and Gold on Friday and help bring home the Regional Championship!!

Sports News

BASEBALL TRYOUTS will be today, March 1st in the field house.  Varsity tryouts are at 5:30 PM and the Freshman/Sophomore tryouts are at 7:00 PM.  If you have any questions regarding tryouts, please contact Mr. Campbell in Room 309.

Congratulations to the girls track team for another victory.  They beat out Wheaton Warrenville South, Oswego, and Woubonsie Valley with the slightest of margins.

Come support both the boys and the girls track teams this Wednesday and Thursday as they take on a field of 13 teams from both sides of the river.

On Wednesday the girls run at Augustana’s PepsiCo Center, and the boys have field events at Carver.  Then on Thursday they switch.

“The Boys Swim Team ended the season on a high note this past weekend.  The relay team made up of Austin Beine, Reed Duyvejonck, Charles Holliday, and Kilian Macias continued to improve from their sectional performance and broke the school record.  Congratulations on a great year.”

Attention Advanced Placement Students: Now is the time to register for AP Testing.  A schedule of test dates is available in the Counseling Office.  Testing will occur the first two weeks of May 2010. The cost of each test is $86 and money due at the time of registration.  All interested students must register with Ms. Ricketts in the Counseling Office for their test by Friday, March 5th.  Please see Mr. Kingery for more information.

BASEBALL TRYOUTS will be on March 1st in the field house.  Varsity tryouts are at 5:30 PM and the Freshman/Sophomore tryouts are at 7:00 PM.  If you have any questions regarding tryouts, please contact Mr. Campbell in Room 309.

A mandatory Athletic Orientation Meeting will be held tonight, February 24th starting at 6:30pm in the Auditorium.  All students who plan to be on a spring sport team must attend this meeting unless you attended the fall or winter orientation this year, and you must have a parent or guardian with you.

Information on eligibility, team rules, NCAA requirements for college athletics, and Athletic department policies will be discussed.  Team meetings will be held for each individual sport.  Do not forget this important and required meeting, Wednesday at 6:30 in the Auditorium.  Roll will be taken and attendance is mandatory if you want to play a spring sport and have not attended an orientation so far this year.

Attention members of MTIP:  There has been a change of time for the bus to depart.  The bus for tomorrow will leave from the circle drive at 7:45 AM.  Meet in front of the Dean’s complex.
