During the fourth quarter we will be working on several units. They will be Fitness testing, Dance, Yard Games, Softball, and Ultimate Frisbee. The length of each unit will vary depending on the activity. It is important that your student participates to the best of his or her ability for each of these units, especially the fitness tests. Students are graded on their individual progress, not against the class. I will be comparing their fall tests with the results they receive this spring looking for improvement. Improvement is what is asked for and expected in physical education. Please stress the importance of warming up properly for class. This will help reduce soreness and the likelihood of an injury. It is also critical that students come dressed and prepared for class every single day. Please help your student in this area since changing clothes for P.E. is new for the 7th graders. A red shirt and black shorts are the required P.E. uniform. Sweat shirts and sweat pants are allowed during the winter in case we go outside or in case the gym is cold. If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to contact me. Thank you.

Welcome to Washington Junior High Physical Education! I am looking forward to teaching your child the benefits of physical activity and exercise. This year we will learn numerous games, both traditional and non traditional team games, and also cooperative and life long games. We will also be learning about fitness concepts and different exercises. Although most of our class time will be activity and participation based, there will be written work as well. This includes tests and quizzes. Dressing for P.E. is extremely important. Dress includes a red t-shirt and black shorts, sweat pants black in color, sweat shirt red or black in color, and non-marking athletic shoes. All articles must be present to be considered dressed. There are no 1/2 dresses. Not dressing will have a severe impact on a students grade.
Lockers and pad locks are provided to the students. All belongings are to be secured in the lockers provided to the students. Please stress the importance of keeping their lockers locked. This will do a great deal to prevent and deter theft in the locker room. Check and double check the lock to make sure it is locked. Keep track of your lock as well. No glass bottles are allowed in the locker room as a safety precaution. A more detailed version of the rules of physical education will be discussed in class and given out at Open House. Please attend Open House to receive the rules. Prepare to work hard and feel good about it! I want this to be a great year in Physical Education. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about what we are doing in Physical Education.
