The boys and girls have been writing throughout the school year in their journals. We write often and for a variety of purposes. I will include a summer journal along with their report card. I would encourage you to have your child write about all of the fun activities they are involved in over the summer. It may be a special day trip or vacation that they want to write about. Just writing down their daily activities will help maintain their writing level for first grade. Please prepare a writing center in your home for the summer. Have special colored pencils, fancy pens, and cool crayons in the writing center along with their summer journal. Have them write about 15 minutes each day and include a detailed illustration as well. Your child can write anywhere! They can write at the beach, park, backyard, outisde on a blanket, in a tent or a car. So be creative and encourage your child to write!
