Summer is a perfect time to create reading and writing routines with your child. Create a special time for your child to read books at their level. You can find easy readers at the Rock Island Public Library or check your book shelves at home. Have your child use their reading strategies to help them with unknown words. They can follow up with a journal entry in their summer journals. Reading a chapter book will help your child with summarizing skills. Ask your child to retell the special events within a chapter. Journal writing after each chapter will help your child recall the events. They may make a text to self connection with a situation or with a character in the story. Enjoy reading together! Have a great summer break!
