Another new Plug-in

We’ve added a plug-in that will be useful to anyone wanting to link a page directly to the parent portal for grades or to any other resource not on your site. Create a new page or use one that you currently have to link to the grades. Give the page a title (Grades or Parent Portal). Scroll all the way down to the bottom of the edit page where it says “Page Links To”. Place the url for the parent page (http://discoverynetapp.risd41.org/portal/) in the box. Click on publish or update. When you go to view your site, you will now have a tab that goes directly to the parent portal.

Mike found a couple of new plug-ins for the websites and we’ve been activating them on the sites. One is for a toolbar at the bottom of the page that can be used for searching all of our sites and it also has a translator for your site and some other features.

The other plug-in shows statistics of who has visited your site and also has a map showing where they are from. You can access this from Plug-ins–>Visitor Maps Options. Then click on “View who’s online”.

Some of the themes will also show the statistics at the bottom of your web site. If it is not showing at the bottom of your home page and you want that option, you will need to try a different theme.

The WordPressMU site that hosts our teacher web sites and blogs was updated today. The update included the addition of a new community website. Here our members can create groups, set up profiles, and update their web sites. Each group has its own forum where you can start discussion topics and search for answers.

The site is new and is still under development. We value your feedback and are interested in features you’d like to see added. You can do this by sending a message directly to me or you can post something to our RISD Community Feedback Group.
